About Verdant Grid

Verdant Grid builds forecasting and dispatch software for renewable operators. Our African portfolio has grown quickly over the past two years, particularly utility-scale solar in South Africa, Morocco and Kenya, and we are hiring our first operations analyst based in the region rather than trying to cover it from Copenhagen. We are employee-owned and everyone here works a four-day week.

What you'll do

  • Monitor performance across a portfolio of solar and storage assets, investigating the gap between what a site should have produced and what it did.
  • Turn raw SCADA and meter data into availability, performance ratio and curtailment reporting that operators trust enough to act on.
  • Be the first point of contact for regional customers when a forecast looks wrong, triaging whether the problem is our model, their telemetry, or the plant itself.
  • Coordinate with local operations and maintenance teams, often in circumstances where the data feed is intermittent and the answer arrives by phone.
  • Build the reporting templates and processes for this region from scratch, since nobody has done it here yet.
  • Feed recurring regional issues back into the product team so they become software rather than manual work.

What we're looking for

  • Three or more years in renewable asset management, plant operations, energy analysis or a closely related field.
  • Practical familiarity with SCADA data, meter readings and the many ways they disagree with each other.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills and working SQL, or the clear appetite to learn SQL quickly.
  • The judgement to distinguish a real performance problem from a sensor that has drifted.
  • Excellent written English and the ability to work with colleagues you will rarely speak to live.
  • Based in Africa with reliable connectivity and at least three hours of overlap with Central European Time.

Nice to have

  • Experience with grid codes or compliance reporting in a Southern or East African market.
  • French or Arabic language skills for our North African portfolio.
  • Python for the analysis that outgrows a spreadsheet.

Benefits

  • A four-day, 32-hour week at full pay.
  • Health insurance appropriate to your country of residence, or a cash equivalent.
  • Home office budget covering equipment and a connectivity allowance.
  • Annual learning budget with paid study time.

Benefits

🗓️ 4-day week🏥 Health insurance🪑 Home office budget📚 Learning budget
